Med Spa

A calmer front desk for every med-spa appointment

Med spas balance consultation time, treatment rooms, practitioners, consent paperwork, retail products, and repeat visits. Square brings those moving parts into one operating flow: clients can book online, receive reminders, complete contracts or waivers, and pay at the front desk or from a mobile device.

Built for your day-to-day

How it fits your business

Your team can assign rooms and equipment to appointments, keep client notes and purchase history together, sell skincare alongside services, and follow up with targeted email or text campaigns. Square Go can add a free discovery channel for eligible U.S. beauty businesses. For clinics handling protected health information, review Square's HIPAA requirements and Business Associate Agreement before deciding what information belongs in Square.

Key capabilities

What you can do

  • Book the right room, provider, and treatment time

Create a 24/7 booking site, define processing time, assign rooms or equipment as resources, and let clients book multiple services with different team members. That is useful for treatment plans that combine consultation, procedure, and follow-up work without double-booking a room or device.

  • Reduce no-shows without adding phone work

Square Appointments supports deposits, prepayments, cards on file, cancellation policies, no-show fees, automated reminders, and Square Assistant replies for confirmations, cancellations, and rescheduling. Configure the policy to match your clinical and customer-service practices.

  • Keep client context with the visit

Customer profiles can hold notes, preferences, birthdays, booking history, messages, documents, images, and files, while contracts or waivers can be attached during booking. Use appropriate access controls and do not assume these tools replace an EHR or EMR.

  • Turn treatment visits into repeat business

Sell service packages, gift cards, and retail products such as skincare, then use customer segments, automated email or text campaigns, loyalty, and Square Messages to encourage appropriate rebooking and product follow-up.

  • Offer convenient ways to pay

Take tap, chip, swipe, digital wallets, Cash App Pay, payment links, invoices, cards on file, or phone-based Tap to Pay. Afterpay can offer four interest-free installments to eligible customers while the business is paid up front, subject to Afterpay terms.

A practical med-spa setup

Start with Square Appointments and a booking site for consultations and treatments. Configure each service with provider availability, processing time, cancellation rules, and any required deposit or contract. At reception, Square Terminal or Square Register handles a fixed checkout point; Square Handheld or Square Reader helps with room-side and mobile payments. Add Square Invoices for treatment-plan balances and Square Inventory Management for retail stock. Square Go is an optional discovery channel, not a payment processor.

Plans, eligibility, and scale

Square Free is $0 per location and includes online booking, reminders, and unlimited calendars. Square Plus is $49 per location per month and adds cancellation/no-show fees, multi-staff booking, waitlists, and lower processing rates. Square Premium is $149 per location per month and adds future bookings reporting, service cost tracking, resource management, and 24/7 support. Square says businesses processing more than $250,000 annually can ask about custom pricing, processing fees, hardware discounts, onboarding, and account management; eligibility is not automatic.

Medical privacy boundary

Square's Med Spa page says its payments are HIPAA-compatible, but Square's HIPAA guidance places responsibility on the seller to determine whether HIPAA applies and whether Square services will create, receive, maintain, or transmit PHI. A covered entity or business associate must review and use Square's HIPAA Business Associate Agreement. Square also says med spas can connect an EHR, EMR, or other patient-related app through the App Marketplace; that is not evidence that Square itself is an EHR.

Meaningful limitations to plan around

Square Go is available across the U.S. to eligible beauty and personal-care businesses, including med spas, but requires online booking to be enabled, is currently an iOS client app rather than an Android app, and does not accept payments yet. Hardware financing is credit-based and unavailable to merchants in Alabama, Delaware, Missouri, Mississippi, New Hampshire, and Tennessee under the published credit-sale terms. Offline payments have a 24-hour reconnection requirement and leave the seller responsible for expired, declined, or disputed payments.

U.S. published pricing checked October 27, 2026: Square Free is $0 per location/month; Square Plus is $49 per location/month; Square Premium is $149 per location/month. Square Pro and processing rates can be custom for businesses processing over $250,000 per year. Hardware is optional.

Requirements

  • U.S. seller account and acceptance of Square terms; plan and fee eligibility are determined by Square.
  • Square Go requires a beauty or personal-care business with online booking turned on; med spas are explicitly listed as eligible business types.
  • Tap to Pay on iPhone requires iPhone XS or later running the required iOS version; Tap to Pay on Android requires a compatible Android device.
  • Square Stand requires a compatible USB-C iPad; Square Reader pairs by Bluetooth with a compatible iOS or Android device.
  • Square Kiosk Lite requires Square Plus or Square Premium and has a per-device monthly software fee; it is not a general med-spa recommendation.
  • Businesses subject to HIPAA must determine their obligations and review Square's HIPAA Business Associate Agreement before using Square with PHI.

All pricing and availability in this record are U.S. published information checked on 2026-10-27 and can change; the seller's Dashboard controls the applicable rate.

The hardwareUSD field uses the $59 Square Reader for contactless and chip as a representative recommended starting device; it is not the total cost of a med-spa setup.

Square's HIPAA-compatible payments statement does not make Square a medical-record system. Determine whether your workflows involve PHI, execute the required BAA where applicable, and use an appropriate EHR/EMR integration when needed.

Afterpay eligibility, customer late fees, and approval criteria are governed by Afterpay terms; Square Go does not accept payments.

Financing prices are installment examples subject to credit approval, state availability, purchase amount, APR, taxes, and other published conditions.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Can a U.S. med spa use Square for online booking and treatment-room scheduling?

Yes. Square explicitly lists med spas as a supported business and provides online booking, staff calendars, processing time, resource booking for rooms or equipment, multi-staff appointments, reminders, and waitlists. Configure clinical workflows and privacy controls separately from the booking setup.

Which Square plan is the likely starting point for a growing med spa?

Square Free provides core booking, reminders, and unlimited calendars at $0 per location/month. Square Plus at $49 per location/month adds cancellation/no-show fees, multi-staff booking, waitlists, and lower published processing rates. Square Premium at $149 per location/month adds resource management, service-cost tracking, future-bookings reporting, and 24/7 support. The best fit depends on staff, rooms, and reporting needs.

Does Square replace a med spa's EHR or make every client note HIPAA compliant?

No such replacement is established by the cited Square pages. Square says it offers HIPAA-compatible payments and can connect to EHR, EMR, and patient-related apps, while its HIPAA guidance requires the seller to determine whether HIPAA applies and to review the Business Associate Agreement. Keep regulated clinical records in an appropriate system and confirm the exact Square workflow with compliance counsel or your administrator.
