Pet Services

Keep pet care appointments, payments, and repeat visits in step.

Square gives groomers, walkers, trainers, boarders, and other pet-care operators one place to schedule services, take payment, and understand what brings pet parents back. A booking site can accept appointments around the clock, while reminders, deposits, cancellation policies, and customer notes help protect busy grooming and care schedules.

Built for your day-to-day

How it fits your business

At checkout, Square supports in-person cards and wallets as well as invoices and payment links for remote or recurring work. Add retail items such as treats or care products to the same sale, use reports to follow service performance, and add marketing or loyalty tools when you are ready to turn a completed appointment into the next booking.

Key capabilities

What you can do

  • Book grooming and care around the clock

Create an online booking site, share a booking link or QR code, and let pet parents request services when your team is off the clock. Recurring appointments, staff calendars, waitlists, processing time, and Google Calendar sync help fit repeat walks, standing grooms, and training sessions into real availability.

  • Protect time reserved for each pet

Square Appointments can collect a deposit or prepayment and apply a cancellation or no-show policy. Card-on-file support can hold an appointment or capture an eligible cancellation charge, giving a grooming or boarding business a clearer way to manage late changes.

  • Take payment at the shop, on the road, or later

Accept contactless and chip payments at the counter or in the field, use Tap to Pay on a compatible phone, or send an invoice or payment link for pickup, walking, training, and boarding charges. Square also supports cash, checks, Cash App Pay, gift cards, and eligible Afterpay transactions.

  • Keep pet-parent context with the sale

Customer profiles, notes, appointment and sales history, messages, and imported contacts help a team remember service preferences and see the relationship beyond a single visit. Reports can surface bookings, sales, frequent customers, and service performance.

  • Combine services with products

Ring a grooming or daycare service together with treats, food, or care products. Square Point of Sale includes item search, inventory tools, low-stock alerts, barcode scanning, and sales reporting, so a pet-care shop can track its retail side without separating the checkout.

A practical setup for grooming, walking, training, and boarding

Start with Square Point of Sale and configure the service or bookings mode around the work you actually schedule. Square’s Pet Services page specifically names groomers, walkers, trainers, and boarders. Use service duration and processing time for grooming, recurring appointments for regular walks or training, and customer notes for pet-parent context. If a specialized operating workflow is required, Square’s industry page also identifies integrations such as ProPet, Acuity Scheduling, QuickBooks, and other partner apps; verify each partner’s current features and price separately before purchase.

Square’s Pet Services page supports groomers, walkers, trainers, and boarders, but it does not establish veterinary, medical-record, kennel-regulatory, or animal-health compliance features.

The pricing page lists plan-dependent features and fees; actual availability, account eligibility, taxes, and pricing can change and should be confirmed in the seller’s Dashboard or Square checkout.

Offline payments require reconnection within 24 hours of the first offline payment; the seller is responsible for expired, declined, or disputed offline payments. Older first-generation Square Reader for contactless and chip versions do not support offline payments.

Afterpay has eligibility criteria and may impose late fees on the customer; it is not a guarantee that every pet-service transaction or seller will qualify.

Third-party integrations named by Square, including ProPet and other App Marketplace partners, may have separate pricing, terms, support, and data behavior.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Can Square handle recurring grooming, walking, or training appointments?

Yes. Square’s U.S. Pet Services page specifically describes recurring appointments for standing grooms, walks, training sessions, and other repeat services. Square Appointments also lists recurring appointments, staff calendars, reminders, and booking controls.

Do I need to buy a card reader to accept payment for pet services?

No. Square says hardware is not required. A business can use invoices, payment links, Virtual Terminal, Tap to Pay on iPhone, or Tap to Pay on Android. A reader, Terminal, Handheld, Stand, or Register can be added when in-person checkout or mobile work benefits from dedicated hardware.

Which Square plan is best for a multi-staff grooming or pet-care operation?

Square Free is the no-monthly-cost starting point. Square Plus adds features that are useful for a growing team, including cancellation and no-show fees, multi-staff appointment booking, and waitlists, at $49 per location per month on the current U.S. page. Premium is $149 per location per month and adds future-bookings reporting, service-cost tracking, and resource management. The right choice depends on the team’s booking and reporting needs.
