Put every order on the right piece of paper

Square’s U.S. printer lineup covers the handoff points that keep a busy operation moving: customer receipts at the counter, heat-tolerant kitchen tickets, liner-free labels for takeout, barcode labels for retail stock, and compact mobile receipts away from the register. The Square catalog lists seven printer products, from a $299 Portable Receipt Printer to a $399 Thermal Sticky Label Printer.

Built for your day-to-day

How it fits your business

Compatibility depends on the exact model, connection, and Square device, so a printer should be matched against Square’s U.S. matrix before purchase. Network printers are the practical choice for multiple stations; USB is tied to one POS device, while Square cautions against Bluetooth for kitchen use.

Key capabilities

What you can do

  • Choose the station, not just the printer

Use a countertop receipt printer for checkout, an impact model where heat and kitchen conditions matter, a sticky-label unit for delivery or takeout labels, or a mobile printer for service away from the counter. Square’s catalog also includes a printer-and-cash-drawer combo for a compact checkout station.

  • Route work to the right prep area

Printer profiles can send selected categories to separate stations and can handle receipts, in-person tickets, online and kiosk tickets, ticket stubs, void tickets, and barcode labels. That lets a café send drinks to one printer, hot food to another, and pickup orders to an expo point without printing every item everywhere.

  • Connect by network or cable

Square supports Ethernet, Wi-Fi, USB, Bluetooth, and AirPrint printer connections. Ethernet and Wi-Fi printers must share the same network as the POS; USB is hardwired to one compatible POS device. Square says Bluetooth works best within 10 feet and does not recommend it for kitchen printers.

  • Cover receipts, labels, and tickets

The supported U.S. range includes receipt printers, kitchen impact and thermal printers, linerless sticky-label printers, barcode-label printers, mobile receipt printers, and dual cash-drawer/printer units. Exact compatibility varies: for example, the catalog matrix marks some USB receipt models as incompatible with Square Register while their Ethernet versions work.

  • Keep online and kiosk orders visible

With the correct profile, Square can automatically print online and kiosk orders, including separate tickets when one online order has different fulfillment methods. This gives a pickup shelf, delivery pass, or expo station a physical production cue without requiring a customer receipt to print.

Current U.S. catalog and pricing

Square’s U.S. accessories page lists Receipt Printer ($319), Impact Printer ($379), Thermal Sticky Label Printer ($399), Receipt & Ticket Printer ($369), Barcode Label Printer ($349), Portable Receipt Printer ($299), and Receipt Printer & Cash Drawer Combo ($699). These are one-time hardware list prices in USD on the verified date; paper and labels are separate consumables. The same catalog lists compatible paper such as 80 mm receipt paper at $99 for 24 rolls, impact paper at $89 for 36 rolls, and mobile receipt paper at $79 for 50 rolls.

Compatibility before checkout

Square’s U.S. matrix names supported models and connection types rather than treating every printer as universal. Examples include Star TSP143IV UE, Star MCP30, Star SP742ME, Epson TM-U220, Star MCP31, Zebra ZD411, and Epson TM-P20 II. Square Terminal requires Hub for Square Terminal for printer connections. Square Stand running Square Kiosk Lite cannot connect directly to external accessories over Bluetooth, USB, or Ethernet, and iOS devices need Square’s Local Network permission for network printers.

Plans, software, and operating limits

A printer is hardware, not a separate printer subscription. Square’s U.S. pricing page shows Square Free at $0 per location, Square Plus at $49 per location per month, and Square Premium at $149 per location per month; printer capabilities still depend on the compatible POS app, device, and configured profile. Square KDS is an additional $30 per device per month on Plus and $20 on Premium. Offline payments are included in every plan, but Square says an Ethernet printer connection cannot be used with offline payments. Standard published in-person card processing is 2.6% + 15¢ on Free, 2.5% + 15¢ on Plus, and 2.4% + 15¢ on Premium; the plan choice, payment type, and eligibility govern the actual fee.

Meaningful limitations to plan around

A profile must be assigned for full printing behavior; an unconfigured printer is limited to a test print, rename, and paper-size management. USB printers serve only the POS device they are attached to. One Bluetooth printer can be paired to only one POS device at a time, and Square does not recommend Bluetooth for kitchens. Network printers need the POS and printer on the same network, while multiple active profiles can create duplicate tickets. For orders with multiple fulfillment methods, Square may intentionally produce more than one kitchen ticket.

U.S. Square catalog hardware list prices verified 2026-10-27: Receipt Printer $319, Impact Printer $379, Thermal Sticky Label Printer $399, Receipt & Ticket Printer $369, Barcode Label Printer $349, Portable Receipt Printer $299, and Receipt Printer & Cash Drawer Combo $699. Printers have no separate monthly subscription; compatible POS, restaurant, retail, kiosk, online-ordering, or KDS software may have its own plan or per-device fee.

Requirements

  • Buy a model and connection type listed as compatible for the intended Square POS device in Square’s U.S. compatibility matrix.
  • Use a printer profile and assign it to the printer for receipts, tickets, labels, or other jobs.
  • Provide wall power and, for network models, the same Wi-Fi or Ethernet network as the POS; USB requires a compatible direct connection.
  • Square Terminal printer setups require Hub for Square Terminal.
  • For iOS network printing, enable Square’s Local Network permission; Android USB setups may require a USB OTG adapter and USB Host support.
  • Budget for the correct paper, labels, cables, hub, and any applicable POS, KDS, or plan charges.

Catalog pricing and availability can change; prices above are the U.S. list prices shown on 2026-10-27.

Compatibility is model- and connection-specific. Do not infer support for a printer from its product category alone.

Square Kiosk Lite has distinct accessory restrictions when running on Square Stand; verify the exact kiosk and companion-device setup.

Processing rates are standard published pricing, not a guarantee of a seller’s negotiated, custom, or special-category rate.

Square’s printer pages do not establish support for every third-party printer, paper type, workflow, or local network configuration.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Can one printer serve multiple Square POS devices?

Use a compatible network printer on the same network for a multi-device setup. A USB printer is hardwired to one POS device, and a Bluetooth printer can be connected wirelessly to only one POS device at a time.

Do I need a paid Square plan to print receipts or kitchen tickets?

Square’s pricing page includes a $0 Free plan and printer setup is handled through compatible POS software and printer profiles. Paid Plus or Premium plans can add advanced industry features and lower published processing rates; Square KDS is an additional per-device fee on those plans. Confirm current feature eligibility for the specific workflow before purchase.

Which printer should a restaurant or café choose?

Choose a supported thermal receipt or ticket printer for quieter counter and kitchen work, or a supported impact printer for a high-heat kitchen environment. Use printer profiles to route drink, hot-food, cold-food, online, kiosk, or expo categories. Check the exact model and connection against Square’s U.S. matrix first.
