Square Stand Kit

A ready-to-run iPad checkout station for a busy counter

Square Stand Kit bundles Square Stand (2nd generation, USB-C) with a cash drawer and receipt printer so a bakery counter, retail register, salon desk, or restaurant checkout can start from one organized station. The stand swivels toward customers for tip, signature, and payment steps, while its built-in reader accepts chip and contactless payments without another reader at the counter.

Built for your day-to-day

How it fits your business

You supply a compatible iPad and a secure internet connection. Square Point of Sale is the straightforward starting software; restaurants and retailers can use their industry modes when they need more specialized workflows. The kit is a strong fit for a fixed checkout that still needs room to add scanners, scales, or a portable Square Handheld later.

Key capabilities

What you can do

  • One counter station, three essentials

The kit includes Square Stand (2nd generation, USB-C), a Star Micronics receipt printer, and a 16x17-inch dual-connectivity USB/printer-driven cash drawer. An iPad is not included, so confirm the model before ordering.

  • Customer-facing payment flow

The countertop stand swivels 180 degrees so customers can review the total, add a tip, and pay. Its integrated reader accepts EMV chip and NFC contactless payments including Apple Pay, Google Pay, Samsung Pay, and Afterpay.

  • Keep the register useful during a short outage

With Square Point of Sale, offline payments can continue temporarily and must be uploaded after reconnecting within the stated window. Offline acceptance carries merchant responsibility for transactions that later expire, decline, or are disputed.

  • Room to grow around the iPad

The included USB hub supports up to three compatible USB-A accessories, and the stand can also work with compatible Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and Ethernet accessories when using Square POS. That makes it practical to add a scanner, scale, or additional printer as the counter gets busier.

  • Optional mobility for table or queue service

Square lists Square Handheld as an optional add-on for tableside ordering and payments. It is not part of the kit, but it can complement a fixed stand when staff need to take orders away from the counter.

What you need before checkout

Bring a compatible iPad: iPad (A16), iPad (10th generation), iPad Pro 11-inch (1st–4th generation), iPad Air (4th or 5th generation), or iPad Air 11-inch (M2 or M3). Square's compatibility page states that Square Stand (USB-C) requires iPadOS/iOS 17.1+. You also need a verified Square account, a consistent wall-power source, and secure Wi-Fi; Ethernet is supported with an Ethernet adapter. Use the included power supply or a USB-C adapter rated at least 45W.

Software and operating modes

Square Point of Sale is the free, general-purpose software path and offers modes for food and beverage, retail, beauty, services, and other businesses. Square Stand can also run Square Kiosk Lite for self-service ordering, but Kiosk Lite has a per-device monthly fee and requires Square Plus or Square Premium. In Kiosk Lite mode, the stand cannot directly connect external accessories through Bluetooth, USB, or Ethernet and offline payments are unavailable.

Meaningful limitations

The kit's iPad is sold separately, and magnetic-stripe payments require a separate Square Reader for magstripe. The stand has no built-in printer by itself; this kit supplies a separate receipt printer. Square advises using compatible accessories and notes that Bluetooth printers are not recommended for performance reasons. Hardware is approved only for the country for which it was intended, and the stand carries a one-year limited warranty.

The Square U.S. product listing shows the Square Stand Kit at $689.00, with an advertised $34.00/month financing option. The kit includes Square Stand (2nd generation), cash drawer, and receipt printer; iPad is extra. Square POS has a Free plan with no monthly subscription fee. Published in-person processing is plan-dependent.

Pricing and capabilities were verified against official Square U.S. pages on 2026-10-27 and can change.

The advertised $34.00/month kit financing is not a universal subscription price. Square says credit-sale plans are issued by Block, require sign-in and qualification, are subject to credit approval, have 15% APR, vary by term, and are unavailable to merchants in Alabama, Delaware, Mississippi, Missouri, New Hampshire, and Tennessee; sales tax may be due at checkout.

The $689 hardware price excludes the compatible iPad and optional add-ons such as Square Handheld and receipt paper.

Square's offline-payment wording includes a reconnect deadline and places responsibility on the merchant for expired, declined, or disputed offline transactions; offline payments are not available in Square Kiosk Lite.

Square Kiosk Lite is a software option, not included kit software, and limits direct accessory connections.

The listed processing rates are standard published U.S. rates and do not represent custom pricing or any YourSquareRep.com program.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Does the Square Stand Kit include an iPad?

No. The kit includes Square Stand (2nd generation, USB-C), the Star Micronics receipt printer, and a 16x17-inch cash drawer. Square lists a compatible iPad as an optional purchase, so verify the model and iPadOS requirement before ordering.

Can I use the kit without paying for a monthly Square POS plan?

Yes for standard Square Point of Sale use: Square's Free plan has no monthly subscription fee, and the published Free in-person rate is 2.6% + $0.15 per tap, dip, or swipe. Paid Plus or Premium plans change the rate and add features; Kiosk Lite specifically requires Plus or Premium plus its per-device fee.

What if I need swipe-card payments or self-service ordering?

Swipe-card acceptance requires a separate Square Reader for magstripe. Self-service ordering is supported through Square Kiosk Lite on a compatible Stand, but Kiosk Lite requires Square Plus or Premium, costs per device, cannot directly use external USB/Bluetooth/Ethernet accessories, and does not support offline payments.
