Square Register Kit

A ready-to-run two-screen checkout for busy counters

Square Register Kit bundles a second-generation Square Register with a cash drawer and Star Micronics receipt printer, so a bakery counter, quick-service line, bar, or small retail checkout can start with one coordinated station. The Register puts payment prompts on a customer-facing display while staff manage items and orders on the main screen.

Built for your day-to-day

How it fits your business

Square Point of Sale is included, with tools that can be configured for food and beverage, retail, beauty, or service workflows. It is a plugged-in countertop system, not a battery-powered terminal: plan for power and Wi-Fi or Ethernet at the checkout. Swipe payments and gift-card swipes require the separately sold Square Reader for magstripe.

Key capabilities

What you can do

  • Everything needed for a staffed counter

The kit includes Square Register (2nd generation), a Star Micronics STAR TSP143IV UE receipt printer from the TSP100IV Series, and a 16 x 17 inch dual-connectivity USB and printer-driven cash drawer.

  • Customer-facing payment screen

Two touchscreens let the employee ring up the sale while the customer follows the payment prompt. Built-in NFC and EMV support covers contactless wallets and chip cards without adding a tablet.

  • A POS that adapts to the operation

Square Point of Sale is included and can be configured with modes for food and beverage, retail, beauty, services, or standard selling. That makes the same countertop station useful for menu items, retail products, or service charges and invoices, depending on the business setup.

  • Built for a demanding checkout

The second-generation Register has 8GB of RAM, up to 2.7GHz processing, 128GB of flash memory, an IP54-rated design, and a two-year warranty. It connects by Wi-Fi or Ethernet through the accessory hub.

  • A short offline fallback

If the connection drops, supported tap, dip, and swipe transactions can be taken offline, but the Register must reconnect within 24 hours to upload them. The business remains responsible for expired, declined, or disputed offline payments.

What is in the box and what is optional

The base kit is the second-generation Square Register, the Star Micronics receipt printer, and the cash drawer. A three-foot customer-display cable is standard. A 6.5-foot extension cable is an optional $12 add-on for extended counters, order windows, or protective barriers. Square Handheld can be added for tableside ordering and payments. The Square Reader for magstripe is a separate add-on for swipe cards and gift-card swipes.

Payments, software, and compatibility

The Register accepts EMV chip cards, NFC contactless cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Samsung Pay, and Cash App Pay through Square Point of Sale. Magnetic-stripe cards require the separate Square Reader for magstripe. The kit is powered by Square Point of Sale and third-party non-Square POS applications are not supported. The device must stay plugged into power; use Wi-Fi or Ethernet for normal connectivity.

Which plan is required

Square Free can run the included POS with no monthly subscription cost, so a paid plan is not required for the basic station. Square Plus and Square Premium add industry features and lower processing fees, while Square Pro uses custom pricing. Square says plans can be upgraded, downgraded, or canceled without a lock-in contract; the exact current monthly prices for Plus and Premium were not exposed on the official U.S. page used for this verification and should be confirmed at signup.

The Square Register Kit is listed at $1,189.00 before tax, or $58.00 per month with eligible financing. Square Free has no monthly subscription cost; paid plans and custom enterprise pricing can change processing rates and features.

Requirements

  • A Square account and Square Payments account are required to process payments.
  • Square Point of Sale software is included; third-party non-Square POS applications are not supported.
  • The Register must remain connected to a power source and normally use Wi-Fi or Ethernet.
  • Square Free can be used without a monthly software subscription; Plus, Premium, and Pro are optional plan choices with different features and rates.
  • The $58/month kit financing offer requires sign-in, qualification, credit approval, and eligible purchase terms; APR is 15%, plan lengths vary, and availability exclusions apply.

Square lists the kit at $1,189.00 or $58.00/month with financing as of 2026-10-27; tax and any applicable shipping are additional at checkout.

Financing is issued by Block, Inc.; it is unavailable to merchants in Alabama, Delaware, Mississippi, Missouri, New Hampshire, and Tennessee. Purchase amounts must be $49-$10,000, APR is 15%, and approval and other factors apply.

Offline payments require reconnection within 24 hours of the first offline payment. Expired, declined, or disputed offline payments remain the seller's responsibility, and Square cannot provide customer contact information for payments declined while offline.

Swipe payments and gift-card swipes require the separately sold Square Reader for magstripe; the kit's built-in payment interface handles chip and contactless payments.

The kit is a permanently powered countertop setup and is not a battery-powered mobile POS.

The official U.S. pages reviewed did not expose exact monthly prices for Square Plus or Square Premium; do not publish a monthly amount for those plans without a fresh official check.
