Accessories — Cases

Protect the device that moves your checkout

Square’s U.S. accessories catalog currently includes three cases for mobile and tablet-based selling: a Belkin SheerForce case for Square Handheld at $39, plus $79 cases that pair a Square Reader for contactless and chip with compatible iPad mini or iPad models. These are protective enclosures, not payment hardware or software subscriptions.

Built for your day-to-day

How it fits your business

The iPad cases keep the Reader attached for on-the-go contactless and chip payments, while the Handheld case adds grip and drop protection to a portable POS already built for orders, payments, scanning, and inventory. Confirm your exact device generation before ordering: the catalog lists specific iPad and Reader versions, and older iPad models are excluded from the case fits.

Key capabilities

What you can do

  • Keep mobile checkout in one grip

The Infinite Peripherals case combines a compatible iPad mini with an attached Square Reader and includes a removable hand strap, useful when a staff member is taking payment away from a fixed counter. The OtterBox option similarly mounts the Reader to a compatible full-size iPad.

  • Add grip and drop protection to Handheld

The Belkin SheerForce case is designed for Square Handheld and is described by Square as a grippy silicone case for added defense against accidental drops. It is an optional enclosure; Handheld remains the payment and POS device.

  • Keep the Reader accessible

Both iPad case listings are built around Square Reader for contactless and chip, so the Reader stays positioned with the tablet for chip cards, contactless cards, Apple Pay, and Google Pay. The Reader and iPad are sold separately unless added as optional items on the product page.

  • Choose by exact generation, not just screen size

The catalog exposes compatibility filters and the product pages name supported generations. Checking the device identifier first helps avoid ordering an iPad case for an excluded model or assuming that every Reader revision fits every enclosure.

  • Buy with a clear return window

Square’s U.S. shop policy allows Products, including third-party accessories, to be returned within 30 days of delivery when they are in original condition and packaging with the original packing slip. Square says it covers return shipping for eligible direct purchases.

What is in the current Cases category

The U.S. catalog lists the $39 Belkin SheerForce Case for Square Handheld, the $79 Infinite Peripherals Case for Square Reader (iPad mini A17 Pro and iPad mini 6th Gen), and the $79 OtterBox uniVERSE case for iPad (A16) and iPad (10th generation). The iPad cases do not include the Reader or iPad by default. Catalog availability and shipping estimates can change at checkout.

Compatibility and meaningful limits

The Infinite Peripherals case supports Square Reader for contactless and chip (1st and 2nd generation), iPad mini (A17 Pro), and iPad mini (6th generation), and excludes iPad mini (5th and 4th generation). The OtterBox case supports iPad (A16), iPad (10th generation), and Reader generations 1 and 2, while excluding the listed 7th–9th-generation 10.2-inch iPads and 5th–6th-generation 9.7-inch iPads. Square’s hardware identifier guidance explains that generation/version affects accessory compatibility. These cases do not replace a compatible iPad, Reader, network connection, or Square POS software.

Plan, checkout, and warranty considerations

A case purchase has no published monthly subscription requirement. Square Free has no monthly subscription cost; Plus is $49 per location per month and Premium is $149 per location per month on the current U.S. pricing page, with lower in-person processing rates on the paid plans. Processing fees apply to payments, not to owning a case. Square’s shop policy is U.S.-only and excludes Puerto Rico, Guam, the U.S. Virgin Islands, American Samoa, and the Northern Mariana Islands. Because these cases are third-party hardware resold by Square, the manufacturer’s warranty and support terms apply rather than Square’s limited warranty for Square Hardware.

Current U.S. catalog pricing is $39.00 for the Belkin SheerForce Case for Square Handheld, $79.00 for the Infinite Peripherals Case for Square Reader with compatible iPad mini, and $79.00 for the OtterBox uniVERSE case for compatible iPad. Cases are one-time hardware purchases; iPads and Readers are separate purchases. No case-specific monthly subscription is published.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Does a case include a Square Reader or iPad?

No. The Infinite Peripherals and OtterBox listings state that the Reader and iPad are sold separately, although each page offers them as optional additions. The Handheld case is an accessory for an existing Square Handheld.

Which iPads fit the Square Reader cases?

The Infinite Peripherals case fits iPad mini (A17 Pro) and iPad mini (6th generation), with Reader generations 1 and 2; it excludes iPad mini generations 4 and 5. The OtterBox case fits iPad (A16) and iPad (10th generation), with Reader generations 1 and 2, and excludes the older iPad generations listed on its product page. Check the current compatibility page before purchase.

Do I need Square Plus or Premium to use a case?

Square does not publish a case-specific subscription requirement. Square Free has no monthly subscription cost, while Plus and Premium are optional paid plans with different processing rates. You still need a compatible Square account, device, and payment software to accept payments.
